You know it's been a long time since you've written a blog when.....
You forget your password to blogger.com !!!
Well, less naps and more play kept mommy and computer away!
Naps well we are now down to one, and lately if we're in the car in the afternoon he'll dose off .. Yes alone and the help of some children singing along on the radio but yup, he takes a power nap and still gets to bed on time. Magic??!! I guess, but getting him to bed is another story all together and really do we want to go there????
OK well let me share a little...
To stop the night feeding ( the feeding before he goes to bed) , I basically put him in the stroller and rocked him to sleep. Which weened him off the first feeding at least! I got him off that habit which I replaced with the stroller rocking habit, which i'll have to eventually replace with something else!!!
Isn't it always that way distractions, distractions and more distractions.
Well this works for now so I'm not breaking my head over it, ( I did that already).
It's so funny how after awhile you have no choice but to let loose... by shear exhaustion really.
So I'm just going with the flow of things and really it's changing his sleep habits, he's way more calm when it's bed time and sometimes he'll even initiate it by walking into the room and laying his head on the bed, as to say "I'm tired" . Amazing!!! He still wakes up like clock work, but and yes this is changing too, he doesn't drink as often so the weening IS happening naturally!!! (This is really for those of you who prefer the natural approach rather than the cry it out method, tried it way to hard and long it just didn't feel right to me at the time)
I read sooooooooooooo much material on the topic and like all other arguments there are 2 sides to it. Well I read them both and I was on the fence for awhile. I dabbled a little on the other side but jumped right back . Like I said, not for me, not right now, and maybe never , who knows. That's the thing with all this parenting information, why not write a standard instruction manual. How to assemble and work the baby. LOL!!! Would make IKEA 's instruction manuals seem easy !
Every topic, and question has two sides to it, with very valid points might I add. AND everyone you meet has a favorite side they want to tell you about . (I've learned to keep my mouth shut on certain topics like sleep, vaccines and healthcare with some parents, I almost got my head chewed off at the park once for putting my 2 cents in!!!)
I won't even go near the vaccine topic!!!
But back to my sleeping topic I found this article by Dr. Sears which I thought was a breakthrough for me , on the quest of some peace to night wakings. So I thought I'd share, hope it sheds some light.

where is mommy???
Finally after a full year i can say i'm finally finding myself!
After feeling trapped in this woman's body, deformed from childbirth and still carrying around what i'd like to call baby weight, is a body that lost it's spirit. Once there was a spirit, one which had carefree nights without worry and structure or routine for that matter! NOW after such a long time I can honestly say I'm feeling like my OLD self again, or is it a NEW self??? Whatever it is, being a mommy is, and well was, really hard for me. I thought by abandoning myself to being a mom would be the best thing for my baby, and now as he gets older I realize that the mom he needs is one who can be a roll model . I need to be tip top, and feeling great about myself (so much pressure I tell you) A couple of months ago I made the decision of getting back to my healthy weight, my healthy ways and my healthy attitude of taking things with stride.
WHY did it take me soooooooo long???
Well the important thing is that I'm here now and doing all the work it takes to be great on the outside, so I can be great on the inside. Does that make sense? Well if I didn't feel good about me, I wasn't much fun to be around (that's no fun for kids now is it!!!)- OR ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER!!! I've began my journey back to ME so I can share all the good things with my boy! It makes mommy and little Lewis a whole lot happier!!!
My words of advice to my new moms.... get back on track soon.... Get that expensive haircut you so deserve or that massage your body is in dire need of, get the membership at the gym you wanna cut from your budget, or better yet get them ALL!!!!
I waited too long .....

A CONVERSATION...
"how did you ween your daughter off the breast?
lewis is now one , i know crazy, and he stopped taking the breast during the day for the most part, but a night still wakes every 2 hours . any advice, and one more thing did you ever let her "cry it out" i'm finding this one hard to even consider but thats what a few moms have told me about!
big kiss
L&L"
This is a question I asked one of my oldest and dearest friends who mommies like I do. I know we're on the same wave length when it comes to most things so I e-mailed her one night in the midst of yet another new mommy crisis, here was her tear jerking reply. I cried!!! I bet we all wished our moms were like this, I'm sure there will not be one inch of insecurity in Maya she's got a super MOM!!!
Thanks sandr, for letting me share your words of wisdom!!!!
her reply:
"hey lor... i've never let her cry it out... i know the modern thing to do is to let them "cry it out", but my natural instinct was always to just go to her... i know a lot of books will say that but there also books that believe if babies are crying and want you or need to be rocked - then so be it, it's for a reason - they want to be with you period... there is no such thing as spoiling a child too much in that respect - in my opinion. so what if he falls asleep in ur arms... or in ur bed.. etc............. he won't want that forever... trust me - maya is a big girl now :) ...... they are small once.
there's an older lady that works with me (her son is like 26 now)... she would let her son cry it out and regrets it big time - never having put her son to bed (and staying with him) or bringing him into her own bed....
as for weening her off the boob.. i basically had a conversation with her... she was 2 and 10 months so it was easier for her to understand at that point.. i never used the old "ur a big girl now".. i basically told her that my boobies were sore (BUT i made sure she understand that it wasn't her doing - v important) ... and that we had to stop. she cried a little at night and at nap time.. but i held her ,and rocked her and kissed her till she fell asleep.. and by the 3rd night she had forgotten all about it!! amazing! she never asked to nurse after that ever again. i would put her to bed and rub her back till she fell asleep! i still do :) we're always on the go.. busy with with school and work so i make sure that bedtime is special and full of love and kisses, and massages. i get in bed with her till she sleeps :) do what's right for you.. what ur gut tells you.. forget books.. forget people... pretend ur a cavewoman with no access to books or internet ;) instinct will kick in.. hehe..
mwaaaaah!! hope this helps!!!!!!! :)))))"
I hope these words help you as much as they helped me they knocked sense into my over tired head!!!!

From one day to the next LITERALLY!!!
So it happened, from one day to the next Lewis is eating chunks!!!! oh yeah . He just refused to eat , thats it he's had it with the mush ( thanks baby the freezer is full!!!!) lol it's ok we'll use those purees to add to barley and splet and quinoa and all sorts of other goodies, so the base, the flavor of all meals is done. I'll use the puree of broccoli and add quinoa or pasta to it ! hmm I'm getting hungry ( what's new ) LOL
So yes from one moment to the next it happened, a few mornings ago I was feeding him his usual cereal MUSH and he was staring at me eat my flax seed waffle,( that same stare he gave me when he was ready to switch to solids) so i took a tiny piece and placed it in front of him. He gobbled it right up, and then I placed another , and another and before I knew it he had eaten the whole thing!!!! I knew the day would come and poof just like that he began to chew and swallow chunks of food. He's having a blast, I gave him whole peas he loved it one by one placing them in his mouth. so adorable to watch! he turned into lewis/cindy crawford!!! He got one half stuck it was soooooooooooo funny...look! We moved rather quickly into real big chunks! Here he is with his first bagel chunk...oh those sesame seeds!! They go everywhere!Actually I`ve now realized that this way of eating this new discovery of chunks is VERY messy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am constantly vacuuming and washing the floors!!! Ah more to do!
His first plum!!! this got rather messy hence the smock like bib LOVE ' LOVE' LOVE these !!!
(IKEA ladies!!! love the store for just about EVERYTHING!)
Another stepping stone, speaking of stepping i`m sure in no time I`ll be writing about his first steps!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
am I dreaming cuz this is going way too fast!
Enjoy the ride mommies, and buckle up it`s a fast and furious one!!!

Toddler-Ville, It's A Whole New Ball Game!!!!
In a matter of days Lewis went from barely crawling backwards to crawling and now climbing and standing on his own!!!! With the help of some foreign objects around the home he's been able to grip on and pull himself up! Now when he gets up from a nap I go in to find him standing up in his crib looking at the door. Wow it's all so fast right now OH and his tooth!!!!!!! It's out, the left one at the bottom and not to far behind is the right one you see it trying to poke through!!!!
My baby is no longer a baby he's entering a whole new phase toddler-ville, I can't just put him down somewhere and come back to find him there. Right now there is no leaving him, not for one second!!!!
He is everywhere and loving it. Everything is a discovery, he's making me discover things too! Like not leaving anything just lying around!!! I have to vacuum and clean up daily so he won't pick up crumbs and eat them right off the floor!!! makes for a really neat home! LOL yeah right, anyone know a good cleaning lady???? MY amazing sisters came by to help do just that CLEAN . spring cleaning..... feels so good to say it even type it and maybe the first 2 hours do it, but now after 5 hours boy i really don't feel anything anymore!!! maybe just a little delirious! Any how a bulk part is done and having Lewis crawling around it really hard to keep things the way they were baby proofing was top priority. move plants out of the way get rid of the prickly ones( thanks di!!) and just make everything a little more child friendly. I would not have been able to do it without their help! Mommies don't ever be afraid to ask for help. weather it be food or to have some one watch the baby while you sleep just ask.... most of your family will gladly help out especially at the very beginning....and well when they become mom's you can repay the favor. For my new mom friends , i know you won't be reading this... boy i remember the beginning, CONGRATZ!!!! welcome LIAM! welcome TESSIA! Lewis has 2 new friends!!! So exciting! mommies rock! enjoy before you know it they'll be 10 months too!!!!

quick easy recipes
We're at the point now where Lewis can basically eat everything that we eat, which is such a relief. It was kind hard to get a meal ready and make sure the baby's food is done and ready on time as well. I've made it a point that he try all veggies, I'm always adding lots of interesting flavors , garlic, onions, bay leaves, turmeric, basil, parsley... and so much more! I really hope he doesn't become a picky eater!! For now I'm doing my part by introducing as much diversity as I can, always with nutrition and health at the top of my list. I've included quinoa, amaranth, spelt, barley, most grains and cereals, and every legume as well.... future chef I tell you!!! Well till then I'm the chef, so easy, fast, simple recipes are just what i need and I usually manage pretty well. Here are a few to inspire you, and because I now cook for all of us together, I only add salt at the very end when I've removed his portion!!!
pasta with rappini (broccoli/cauliflower/swiss chard)
this is so simple,
~boil water in a large low casserole.
~ meantime cut up your veggies to match the size of the pasta (example if using penne make sure you cut up the veggies so they are not longer than the pasta, it makes for an easier time with forking it all up:) soak them in cool water. Then strain.
~when the water comes to a boil, throw pasta in and check cooking time. At the halfway mark add the veggies right in with the pasta.
~while that's getting done, chop up some garlic .
~strain casserole contents when ready. AL DENTE PLEASE!!!
Then add garlic and some olive oil to casserole and toss it all up together, remove portion for baby puree or chop up nice and fine and it's ready to be fed to your baby.
~with the rest of the pasta veggie mix you can add salt and even a little spicy pepper!!! Grate a little parmigiano on top and voila: quick, easy, healthy, and delicious!!!
Here's another great one:
quick minestrone packed with goodness
~one chopped up onion
~a few cloves of garlic, chopped
~a few carrots, sliced
~a green pepper, chopped
~sting beans chopped up in 1 inch pieces
~2-3 potatoes peeled and chopped
~1 can of crushed tomatoes
~1 can of cannelli beans
~1 can of mixed beans
~some fesh basil and parsley
~a few bay leaves
~a little olive oil (use a good one)
~ a pinch of thyme
~ a pinch of oregano
~ a dab of tumeric
Stir fry the onions, garlic, and oil, add potatoes and carrots let stir fry all together for a couple of minutes on med/high heat. Add spices (except basil and parsley). Then add green pepper and the tomato can and let that simmer a couple of minutes.
Now add 1 can of water, rinsing out the tomato can. Add the mixed beens and another can of water as well and the cannelli beans and one last can of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and add the green beans (you want them to have texture so they`re last to go in)
Last but not least, add your fresh basil and parsley.
For baby: remove the contents with a laddle careful not to have too much liquid. Puree all the veggies and beans together and there you have it! A super healthy veggie packed lunch or supper filled with lots of flavour and plenty of goodness!
For yourself: chop up fresh spinach and add it in at the very end where it's barely cooked (keeping all the nutrients) and sprinkle some cheese preferably romano or if not parmigiano!
So here are 2 quick, easy, simple recipes that are packed with flavor, nutrients, goodness and love for both baby and you. Go ahead try them! Let me know!
Buon appetito!!!

nine months
Crazy how it really flys by!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone said it would.MY LITTLE MAN IS 9 months ..... Nine months ago on that sunny afternoon my gorgeous little bugger was born!!!! Seems like light years ago... I've been watching him for the last nine months , day to day, grow and discover new things... from his self discovery of hands, feet, to his first smile, that first giggle!!!! And now to the discovery of his penis!!! yes can you believe it!! Crazy how quickly they learn!!!! I love his quirky ways... so bright , curious ready to learn... He`s fabulous!!!
What a job being a mom, nothing can prepare you for this. It's life altering!
Lucky for me, I have a couple of new moms to relate with , exchange info and over all learn together... it's the tribe from long ago, we moms we stick together. THANK GOD FOR WOMEN!!! Really it's impossible to know everything and sometimes an opinion from a clear, rested mind is exactly what is needed. I also have soon to be moms!!!! So excited for them ( girls you know who you are!!! I'm so excited for you!!!!) Spring babies are great!!! They come at the perfect time, weather wise. By the time you rest up, get your emotions under control , get a grip on the whole mommy thing you can put the baby in the stroller and go for nice walks in the warm sun. Amazing.
For now i'm wondering when these cozy days will turn into the smell of spring? We're March already and I've had my share of colds and the flu and really one more time I see Lewis's nose leak i'm gonna loose it!!!
Then again with all that's going on in Japan and what Mother Nature is capable of, with all the devastation I feel ridiculous even writing this.
but i wouldn't be a true montrealer if i didn't complain about the weather!!!LOL
All this to say that soon spring will be hear and with that comes summer close behind and before i know it i'll be writing how he just turned ONE!!!!
wow, it's going so fast... let me go stare at him sleep for awhile.
nighty night
